Marketing Partnership Case Study

Bloodworks Northwest + Sonic Guild

Partnership Overview

Partner: Bloodworks Northwest Program/Activation: Music’s In Our Blood Timing: August–December 2025 Location: Pacific Northwest (Washington & Oregon)

Summary: Music’s In Our Blood is a partnership between Bloodworks Northwest and Sonic Guild that unites music and community engagement to inspire blood donation across the Pacific Northwest. The campaign aimed to recruit 10,000 new and returning donors through artist ambassadors, concerts, and collaborative activations with local organizations and brands. By leveraging the influence of musicians and cultural partners, the campaign successfully mobilized the community and strengthened the region’s blood supply, far exceeding its original goal.

Objectives

The campaign was designed with three primary objectives. First, to drive awareness and inspire action around blood donation across Washington and Oregon by leveraging culturally relevant storytelling and community-based engagement. Second, to engage and cultivate the next generation of blood donors by connecting with younger audiences through music, live events, and trusted artist voices. Third, to advance musician career growth by providing meaningful, paid opportunities that supported artistic development while integrating musicians directly into a mission-driven public health initiative.

Strategy

The partnership was built on leveraging emerging musicians as authentic community voices to inspire blood donation. The campaign targeted fans, younger audiences, and local communities through social media, video content, and live music experiences. By activating trusted artists, the campaign elevated messaging through credible, peer-driven storytelling.

A concentric circles strategy was used to activate multiple musicians and partner organizations simultaneously, creating organic amplification across overlapping communities. This approach ensured the message was shared in a way that felt authentic, culturally relevant, and community-led rather than promotional.

Execution

Sonic Guild led the design and execution of the Music’s In Our Blood artist ambassador program, identifying and securing six musicians across Seattle, Bellingham, and Portland to serve as creative and community-facing representatives of the campaign. These artists were selected based on both artistic merit and their ability to engage audiences and inspire action, each participating during an active touring window between September and December 2025.

Each artist received a $2,000 grant to support their career development, along with a promotional package that included custom-designed posters, campaign visibility, and amplification through partners such as KEXP. In exchange, artists delivered structured campaign activations across their platforms and performances, including monthly social media content, testimonial videos, and on-stage messaging supporting blood donation awareness.

Live performances were integrated with campaign activation tools, including QR-driven donation links, audience incentives, and giveaway opportunities designed to drive measurable engagement.

Beyond core deliverables, Sonic Guild expanded artist engagement through podcast features, media opportunities, school-based programming, and community activations. These touchpoints connected musicians directly with students and local audiences through performance, mentorship, and storytelling. Pop-up performances and partner activations further extended campaign reach and deepened community connection. |

From concept through completion, Sonic Guild managed the full program lifecycle, including artist recruitment, onboarding, campaign coordination, content management, and partner alignment. The team also oversaw performance tracking, content collection, reporting, and evaluation, culminating in a February 2026 celebration and impact review.

Results / Impact

The Music’s In Our Blood campaign delivered significant and measurable public health impact through music-driven outreach and community activation. The campaign generated 20,353 blood donors, more than doubling the original goal of 10,000 new and returning donors.

This total included 10,042 first-time donors and 10,311 returning donors, defined as individuals who had previously donated once or had not donated in more than two years. This balance reflects both successful donor acquisition and effective re-engagement of lapsed donors, strengthening the regional donor base.

Overall, the results demonstrate the effectiveness of an integrated, community-led approach that combined musicians, partner organizations, live events, and storytelling to drive sustained participation and measurable impact.

Artist / Community Impact

The campaign resulted in increased social media reach and engagement across participating artist channels, amplifying awareness through authentic, artist-led storytelling. It also expanded community access to music-driven health messaging by embedding blood donation awareness within live performances, digital content, and partner activations. In addition, the initiative strengthened artist visibility through expanded media opportunities, live performances, and collaborative partner activations, while also deepening the connection between musicians, their audiences, and broader civic engagement efforts.

Partner Value

The partnership delivered significant value for Bloodworks Northwest through increased brand visibility, particularly among younger audiences and first-time donors, establishing a foundation for long-term donor engagement. The campaign also increased audience engagement across multiple touchpoints, strengthening awareness and participation throughout the region.

By aligning musician support with community health outcomes, the partnership created a clear win-win model that benefited all stakeholders while reinforcing shared values of care, culture, and community impact. The campaign also generated a wide range of content assets across multiple platforms, extending reach and amplifying impact beyond live events and direct activations.

Testimonial

“I'm really grateful for this opportunity to bring awareness to blood donation. I think the process of donating blood is kind of intimidating. Before I started giving blood, I didn't really know much about it. I'm really happy that I could work with Bloodworks to help spread the word.”— Tomo Nakayama

“When music and generosity join forces, life keeps flowing. Through the power of music, this campaign brings the urgent need for blood donors to center stage. We are thankful to the artists, organizations, and fans who are joining together to increase blood donations to benefit the people in our community who need blood transfusions.”— Curt Bailey, President and CEO, Bloodworks Northwest

Key Takeaways

The campaign demonstrated the effectiveness of musician ambassadors in driving awareness and engagement. Musicians brought strong credibility within their communities and were able to cut through the noise of traditional digital marketing, making them highly effective advocates for action.

The initiative also reinforced the importance of belonging and shared purpose. When people feel connected to something larger than themselves, they are more likely to take immediate action and develop sustained long-term giving behaviors.

Ultimately, the partnership succeeded because it created an authentic alignment between blood donation awareness and the music community, positioning both music and blood as essential forces that sustain and support life.

Next Steps / Future Opportunities

Building on this success, Music’s In Our Blood will continue in 2026 with a focus on expanding reach, deepening donor engagement, and further strengthening community health outcomes through sustained participation and artist-driven activation.
