KXAN: Renowned Austin music producer says Sonic Guild grant reminded him community is everything

We’re excited to see KXAN spotlight 2025 George Reiff Producers Grant recipient Stuart Sullivan and the impact that direct support for producers can have across Austin’s music community.
In a new feature, KXAN visited Sullivan at Point West, his west Austin recording studio, to talk about his career, the importance of Austin’s music community, and the project he created through Sonic Guild’s Producers Grant.
Turning a Grant Into New Music
Sullivan has spent decades producing and recording music with artists including Willie Nelson, Sublime, Butthole Surfers, Meat Puppets, and many others.
In 2025, he received a $7,500 George Reiff Producers Grant from Sonic Guild to work with Austin-based artist Lindsay Beaver.
The grant gave Sullivan and Beaver something increasingly difficult to find in the recording process: time and creative freedom.
With the funding, they were able to bring additional musicians into the studio and fully develop six of Beaver’s songs into a new EP. Beaver is releasing the songs individually, and the project has already helped generate new management and label interest.
“The money that was funded allowed us to hire lots of musicians and allowed us to really focus on these songs,” Sullivan told KXAN.
Supporting the People Behind the Music
For Sullivan, the grant wasn’t simply about receiving recognition for his own work. It gave him the opportunity to use his experience and resources to help another artist move forward.
“My job is ultimately a service job,” Sullivan told KXAN. “I am helping people achieve their goals.”
That ripple effect is at the heart of the George Reiff Producers Grant.
When we invest directly in producers, that support extends to the artists they record, the musicians they hire, the studios where they work, and ultimately the music that reaches all of us.
As Sullivan put it in his conversation with KXAN, the music community is its own little universe, and we need to support each other. We couldn’t agree more.

Sonic Guild’s George Reiff Producers Grant provides direct support to producers working with artists who may not otherwise have access to professional production resources. By investing in the people behind the music, the program helps producers and artists create new work while strengthening the music communities around them.
